Remote Coaching: A New Experience with Assistant Head

We recently told you about Oak Hill Academy, a school that’s ahead of the game in building a sustainable coaching culture, using video and the support of external consultant, Mike Fleetham. We interviewed some of the staff before the programme began to discover their expectations, we’ll be releasing a new one each week.

Our first interview is with Assistant Head Teacher, Lisa Middleton – experienced IRIS user and self-confessed enthusiast. She’s been teaching for nine years and currently acts as coach and mentor to other staff within the school.

"I can’t wait to get started with the in-ear coaching, I think it’s the child in me. I want to pretend I’m on mission impossible... I’m looking for Mike to be the eyes in the back of my head that I tell the children I already have.

I think sometimes we forget that this isn’t all about us, it’s really about the learners. So, I’m hoping to focus on the outcomes for them by looking at how they respond and react to certain strategies and activities"
